Victoria Falls tournament – Zimbabwe Rugby Union is hosting a brand new tournament in the beautiful town of Victoria Falls. The competition will take place on March 18th and 19th and will be broadcasted on TV since the union signed a partnership with the channel Kwese Sports.

(Rugby Africa) – What kind of tournament is it ?
(Zimbabwe Rugby Union) It is a 7’s Inaugural International Tournament

– Which teams will be playing in this tournament ?
Sierra Leone, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia and Zimbabwe we will also have an U19 tournament to mainly feature Zim schools from different regions. The Ideal is to have10 International teams taking part each year.

– Is it an important tournament ? 
It is very important as  it give National teams like Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana and Namibia an opportunity to play before important qualifiers like the HSBC core status tournament in March. The whole idea is to allow prospective core status teams game time and we hope this will grow each and every year over the next 5 years.

– Why did you organise it in the Victoria Falls ?
We want to move away from traditional Capital Cities  and a holiday resort  town  will in future attract teams like, USA, England , Bermuda, Singapore, Egypt etc who will not only come for the tournament but see the beauty that Zimbabwe has to offer tourism wise.

– Do you want to reorganize this kind of tournament next year ?
Yes our current deal will last for the next 5 years to see us through to 2021

– Is it a good training for the coming season ?  
Yes as it affords us game time before Africa Cup and identify talent
