As expected, action-packed, tense and surprising … The Olympic repechage in Monaco is ending, leaving some teams with bitter-sweet memories ! The Samoans, great favorites of the competition lost against the Spaniards, just a few seconds away from the final whistle. Russia made Canada fall and Zimbabwe beat Tonga ; such surprising results !

Spain won the jackpot, to everyone’s surprise !
Monaco lived up to our expectations, full of unexpected developments ! To top it all, our African teams can return to their continent with their heads up. These two days were not the simplest, as was to be expected in front of 13 of the best teams of the world. Nevertheless, Zimbabwe, Morocco and Tunisia did us proud!
While the first day seemed very difficult for our three teams, (only two victories : one for Zimbabwe in front of Tonga and one for Morocco against Tunisia for 7 matches played) the second day was much better.
Zimbabwe didn’t want to leave empty-handed and worked twice as hard at the end of the tournament. They ended winning the Monaco 7s Trophy after 3 victories for 3 matches played !
The dream of the Olympics flies away for our teams. Nevertheless it was a good opportunity for them to prove that they deserve their place on the international scene of 7s rugby.
