Try-Fest as Hosts Tunisia Beat Morocco to Qualify for African Women’s Rugby Premier Division

The Tunisians were confirmed 2026 Division One champions following a thumping 54–0 win over Morocco in Tunis on Sunday, 16 May.

TUNIS, Tunisia – Hosts Tunisia have clinched the Rugby Africa Women’s Cup Division One title to gain promotion into the tier-one Women’s Cup Performance Division for 2027.

The Tunisians were confirmed 2026 Division One champions following a thumping 54–0 win over Morocco in Tunis on Sunday in a tournament that also involved Côte d’Ivoire.

On Sunday, in front of 2 000 spectators at the Chedly Zouiten Stadium, Tunisia captain Lamia Mlawah led her side in a one-sided try-fest in which the hosts crossed the whitewash nine times.

Centre Mlawah scored a try of her own, while the imposing number eight Yasmine Korbi recorded a memorable hat-trick in the rout of their fellow North Africans.

Wing Alaa Hidri grabbed a brace of tries, with the remaining five-pointers coming from prop Ranim Benbrahem, lock Rawaa Boudabbous, scrumhalf Islem Waeli and flyhalf Zahra Haddaji.

Waeli was, however, not clinical with the kicking tee, slightly reducing the margin of damage for the Moroccans.

Tunisia finished with a 100 percent record in the three-nation tournament.

The hosts ran riot in their opening match on 8 May, putting Côte d’Ivoire to the sword 85–0. The Ivorians’ difficult tournament ended on 12 May with a 27–5 defeat to debutants Morocco, who were playing in their very first international match.

It was a historic outing for the Moroccans, who will look to build on this milestone as they continue developing at international level.

As for the champions Tunisia, they now head into next year’s Performance Division with the goal of launching a successful 2029 Women’s Rugby World Cup qualification campaign.
